It is said to be one of the oldest profession with businesses practicing accounting for thousands of years. Cuneiform tablets from the fertile crescent show evidence of accounting practices. The first known book in the English language on accounting was published in 1543 by John Gouge, and in 1635, Richard Dafforne wrote “The Merchant’s Mirrour” and it contains references to early books on the science of accountancy.
